Today's MSM Horsemen of the GOP Apocalypse Push: Mitch Daniels

(2) The MSM has a track record of pushing losing GOP candidates, particularly in presidential races, before turning against them after the primaries and backing the Democrat in the general election (see: McCain 2008) Re “McCain did not really want to be president”, I totally agree. That said, I don't believe he was consciously aware of it. In fact, I have a theory about McCain's psychology that explains his unwillingness to fight to win. Here is my theory:

Notes on Building a Left in the Age of Obama | Mostly Water

Still, well into Year II of the Obama atrocity, one group of so-called left-liberals clings preposterously to a false image of Obama as a deep-down people's president who still wants to “do the right thing” for the common good. For many of these “progressive” so-called left liberals, unjust wars and occupations, mega-bankers' bailouts, U.S. torture practices, secret paramilitaries and executions, illegal domestic wiretaps, drone attacks on defenseless women and children

The Wiretapped President: Image Repair Theory and Presidential

Literature Review: Image Repair Theory and Presidential Apologia. Apologia is defined “the speech of self-defense” by Ware and Linkugel (1973) and much of its evolution deals with the term “subgenres” or “postures” (p.274): absolutive;

Man, our president is cool. - Boing Boing

o16_48429278.jpg The Big Picture takes a big pixel look back at President Obama's first 167 days in office. He looks cool in pretty much every picture. Well played, Barry, well played. Everyone, not just US citizens. Fire anyone who so much as thinks the phrase "state secrets."

Emptywheel » The Statute of Limitations on Bush's March 11, 2004

If the latter scenario is the case, it would mean Eric Holder's DOJ would have received a judge's ruling that the wiretapping done five years ago was illegal. That is, DOJ may be sitting on a judge's order finding Bush's actions five to have avoided legal consequences for this particular crime committed while in office. You have deliberately violated a law designed to check presidential abuse of power, and Mukasey and Congress and Obama have let you get away with it.

Senate approves warrantless wiretapping and telco immunity, throws

Gore and Kerry ran two of the worst presidential campaigns in recent history. In the pool hall there's a saying, you gotta win both matches. Gore lost both; the one in the voting booth and the fight in the parking lot afterwards. Obama has supported the FISA vote despite knowing that the current President's actions of phone tapping were in direct breach of the law and therefore illegal. The immunity for telecommunication companies is irrelevant here.

Matthew Yglesias (April 07, 2008) - Worst President Ever (Culture)

I would call this the Timmy O'Toole theory of Presidential rankin'. Homer: That Timmy is a real hero! Lisa: How do you mean, Dad? Homer: Well, he fell down a well, and he can't get out. Lisa: How does that make him a hero? Wilson has been treated in the image of a kindly College President with the highest intellectual talents. Note the many claims his failures were not his failures but our own. You see, he was ahead of his time. We failed him.

When in 2002 the FISA court of Review made their only public opinion and found that "The Truong court, as did all the other courts to have decided the issue, held that the President did have inherent authority to conduct warrantless searches to obtain foreign intelligence Before FISA was passed in 1978, there was a provision in the 1968 Wiretap Act (a/k/a Title III) expressly deferring to presidential authority in the field of foreign-intelligence surveillance.

(Notes on) Politics, Theory & Photography: Bush Postpones 2008

President Bush, citing his authority as Commander in Chief of the armed forces and his inherent constitutional power over foreign affairs, today ordered a postponement of the 2008 presidential election in order "to protect the American people . The image supplies little in itself. What counts is its use and the power to fix a particular interpretation of the events, objects or people depicted. Some people, and especially some institutions, have much more clout in this

DD Revival: Bush Wiretapping In 1936 Nazi Germany

Bush is not a president. He was not elected in accord with the Constitution. He is a presidential usurper whose usurpation violates the rights of all Americans to have a president elected in accord with the Constitution.
